Sometimes, the search engines act really strange. And this story will prove how I’ve got top positions (80% on no.1) into the major search engines – such Google, Yahoo!, MSN – without lifting a finger! What is REALLY strange? I did not optimize my page!

But first allow me to give you some backgrounds. Couple of time ago I buy a domain name and hosted into a very reliable server. At that time I intended to build a mini-site around a very powerful service which was released at that period.

I can’t remember why at that time I was very busy. So I just write a simple page, insert a few links to the program I promote and upload it. Everything it don’t takes me more than 1/2 hours.

That was the beginning. The page stays there for around a month. I remember I post 3-4 messages into some forums and link them to my newest mini-site. That was ALL I can do at that time. But one day I decided to make a little change.

I login to my hosting account and take a look at the stats. Surprise! I saw traffic from Google and Yahoo! What??? I didn’t submit my website to the search engines!

What the hell is going on?

I open my WebPosition Gold 2 software and check my website. Geez, my site was there, on no.1 for 3 keyphrases in Google, Yahoo!, and MSN, and take no.1 through no.5 spots on other 2-3 major search engines.

I couldn’t belive that was happening to my website, but the evidence was there. It was very hard to believe that I’ve got no.1 places into the search engine without doing a little optimization. Because my friend, THAT page was NOT optimize for the search engines!

So I said to myself: “That won’t last forever. I give one week and I’ll saw my website going down because it has no support for all those positions!”. Well, it didn’t last a week. After only 5 days, my website was vanish. Not a single position into the top 10, not even found on search engines!

OK, what it was it was. For only couple of days (perhaps hours) I was on no.1 spots. It means that I can do it again IF I’ll do everything by the book. Despite of general opinion, search engine optimization it’s not so hard. If you know what to do, if you take your time to study the right stuff and have patience, there’s impossible not to rich the position you desire.

That was fine, but I also plan to go into vacation with my family. It was on July, the weather was great, and we plan this vacation from a long time. My son dream about this vacation, so I said, “Why not? Let’s do it!” You know the rest: spend a lot of time for making reservations, baggage, prepare the car for the trip, etcetera. Less time for me to build my website.

So I left my mini-site and going to vacation. Two weeks later when I come back, after settle down the things into the house, I first check my emails. Oh no! – up to 300 emails waiting for me. Check couple of them, get VERRY angry (you must read below website hosting story!) and then take a ride to see my stats.

Total SURPRISE! My website was AGAIN on the no.1 for Google, Yahoo!, MSN… plus positions between no.1 and no.4 on others!

This is my real story. If you spent some time on search engines like I do it, you know this is weird. Not because I was again on top, it’s weird I’ll get to the top WITHOUT optimization.

Now let me tell you more about this page:

- total words: 864

- links to the affiliate program I promote: 4 (position them from middle to the bottom of the page)

- use the keyphrase mainly from middle to the bottom of the page

- use only a “.gif” picture for my signature (no keywords for “ALT” tag)

- headers at the top of page: 3 (first use font size no.3, the next use H1, and the last H4 tag). NO keywords or keyphrases inside!

- first appear of the keyphrase is on “word” no.100, the next on no.283 (from 864!)

- number of times my keyphrase appear on the body of page: 5

- number of times my keyphrase appear on the links: 3

- my keyphrase is build on 3 words and a number

- no use of META tags

- layout: use 2 tables to design my page, one in other

- couple of short Java scripts at the bottom of page

- use six bullets on the middle of page, two P.S., and a line of copyright, address, and contact info at the bottom of page

- it was uploaded as a home/ index page, NO keywords into my domain name

- I DID NOT announce this page/ website to the search engines!

If I’m right, THIS is not an optimized page. And remember: depending on HOW people will search and what keywords/ keyphrases will use, my competition is between 32 and 2,750,000 and continue to grow!

I hope not a single SEO webmaster will read this issue. Because, in a way, it’s outrageous! I didn’t do anything to deserve this position. I know people try harder to get top positions. They work a lot to optimize pages, to get relevant links, build content to become search engine friendly, and many other things.

This time it’s not my case. But there is a hard lesson here and I want to shear it with you. These days Netpreneurs likes a lot to build one page mini-sites. Those things works and I prove it to you. Beyond the SEO problems and the no.1 spots on major engines, there is something which only a few people will ask you: “So what if you have a no.1 position(‘s)?”

Most people will aspect a hoard of targeted visitors ready to use their credit cards to buy something they offer, probably their own product/ services or something from an affiliate program or joint venture. Sometimes this is completely wrong! If your keywords are not “hot”, chances are that your no.1 spots will drive only couple of visitors. Not to mention sales…

The real Netpreneurs knows that. So if you want to build a mini-site in the next days, think about how many people will come and BUY what you promote. To help you, here’s a 6 step plan to build a profitable mini-site:

–> Step no.1: find a “dream” product or service with an affiliate program (or joint venture partner) which pay well.

–> Step no.2: determine if you can use “hot” keywords to promote the program. Use a tool like WordTracker (http://www.internetmarketingprofitscenter.com/wordtracker/), the best service on the Internet for such a job.

Find keywords/ keyphrases with low supply (little competition) but have a higher demand (appear on many searches around the ‘Net).

–> Step no.3: get a relevant domain name and host it into a reliable server (try to insert keyword into the name of domain, or think at something close to the product).

–> Step no.4: start building 3-5 pages (build a theme around the product), do SEO and announce your site to the major search engines.

–> Step no.5: concentrate your efforts on getting links from top related websites.

–> Step no.6: once you rich on top and get back your initial investment and something more, determine your ROI and start using pay-per-clicks search engines to boots your profits.

If you follow EXACTLY these steps, chances are that your mini-site will jump on top of search engines and will REALLY drive that particular targeted visitor eager to buy what you promote! Otherwise, you will lamentably fail.

Final thoughts on my search engine story:

By all odds I regret my page is not what I first intend to do. Because, I have to tell you this, my page was just throw away into the cyber-space! The idea was to have something on my index/ home page until I build my website. Has NOTHING to do with my theme idea. That’s why I NEVER think at optimization.

But I don’t regret too much that I’ll have to delete it soon. I learn something very useful: no matter how many top positions you have on the search engines, unless you write a very compelling web page, chances are that you’ll have poor visitors. And poor visitors means no sales, no ROI.

(Chances are that, at the moment you read this article, my “magic” web page simply dropped from no.1 positions or I delete it. So don’t bother to spend time on find it. You have to believe me! And if you don’t, I’ll have to PROOF on my computer, as a “.gif” picture.)

So has Google found your site yet?

Over the last 12 months Google has undergone many changes to the way it looks at and lists your site.

This week sees another upgrade in Google.

As any search engine or member of the public will tell you, Google or any other search engine MUST provide the most relevant listings for a search query.

One of the major changes that Google is implementing is that it will not display more than one AdWords listings for the same company Domain Name. At present they also try to have only one listing (with a secondary) per website domain displayed in the top search results.

This affects mainly affiliated member sites.

This also affects companies that provide a member program. Say if you were using Google AdWords and there are 5 members from your company paying to use AdWords only one listing will be displayed and this will be the highest bid for that keyword.

In another words the average Joe Marketer will have to pay a high price to have his AdWord listing displayed.

For Google and for the Google search user this provides a more defined search. There will not be 5 AdWords placed for the same company or merchant as has been the case in the past.

With 3 or 4 AdWords for the same company displayed, allowed a person who paid a bid of 50 cents to be displayed at the bottom of the list while someone who could afford to pay five dollars for the same keyword to have his link at the top of the page. You stood a chance when your AdWord was displayed, now you have to have the highest bid at that particular time.

BUT, this is not an insurmountable problem. This is where owning your own Domain name and web site is a must.

At present many search engines only allow one plus a secondary listing for any one domain to be displayed in their top page or two of their search results.

NOTE:
There is no easy way around not owning your own domain.

Getting your affiliated member site listed in a search engine is becoming almost impossible, especially when you consider that there are tens and even hundreds of thousands of other members belonging to the same company, promoting their member site too.

This can and will affect many companies as they rely on their members to promote the companies site though pay per click – AdWords and standard search engine listing.

With odds of one hundred thousand to one you have better odds of winning the lotteries.

Once marketers understand the concept of creating their own website, one of the next hurdles they face is the content for their site. What so often happens is that they do not consider themselves as copy writers, so they copy the content from their member site. I have seen this many times where marketers websites are almost exact copies of their companies site.

The definition of a search engine is to provide the most relevant search results for a specific search.

Google are only trying to live up to this definition. So as they are only allowing one AdWord display listing for any one company or domain, Google are also only allowing one page with the exact same content to be displayed.

If your web page is a duplicate of your companies page, then your page is very likely to receive a duplicate content penalty with Google.

In other words if your site has been indexed by Google and they find your page to be an exact copy of another page, it is highly likely your page will receive the penalty and not the company site.

Remember that the Google Bot’s are checking and indexing around eight billion pages each month. It takes a very powerful computer system to keep track of all those pages and the content on those pages to return relevant searches. It doesn’t take to much brain power to realize that as Google indexes a page it can also compare your page with the thousands that fit into your product, service or information category.

It is generally thought that for a 1st offense your page will be removed from their index for 30 days then for the 2nd offense for 60 days then for a 3rd offense your page will be removed for 90 days. After the 3rd offence you can forget about Google.

But it gets worse, if your page contains duplicate content and Google spots it, for the time your page is cooling off for 30 days it affects the rest of your site as you will no doubt have many links in the site map etc, to the banned page so this can and does affect your whole sites ranking.

The news is not all bad as anyone who has the ability to consider marketing any product and is prepared to attempt creating a web site, also has the ability to reword and rewrite the content from their company site.

Most other pay per click search engines or ones that accept paid inclusion like Overture already use similar policies that Google is now implementing.

There are exceptions to the duplicate rule like RSS News feeds, Directories, ezine article Directories and sites like Ebay and Yahoo stores where these individual stores use the Yahoo or eBay domain name.

Using good common sense, you should never have any problems with Google or other search engines as you are promoting your website as your own unique sales display.

Don’t get me wrong Google is my first choice in Search Engines.

Google offers many f`ree tools for web masters. You can find some of tools listed here.

http://www.google.com/help/features.html

If you to Google.com search, you can check the links to your Website. (incoming links). Where I have www.internet-income-index in the search box, you would type in your website domain.

Now if I can get 151 links back to my site without submitting it to search engines, think what you can do…

Most Internet Marketers average between 20 and 50 links using the Google links tool.

My point is if you add one link to your website in a single Internet directory, Google and other search engines will find you and your site just by following the link you placed in that one directory.

If you check issue 103 of this ezine dated May 26 – 2004 Google only had 2 links to my ezine site listed.

I have placed a link on my other personally owned sites and have added ezine articles I have written in a couple of Ezine Article Directories. You will find EzineArticles.com will be listed above my site in a search for my ezine site as they are a very high profile site.

The higher the profile or page rank Google gives any site that you have your site link in, the higher Google is likely to rate your site providing you have played by Googles rules.

Did you know that many search engines consider you have 2 sites one with http;//www. in front of your domain and one with just the http;//yourdomain.com plus if you have a sub-domain name like http://www.search.yourdomain.com they treat this generally as a different domain or website. The word search is the sub-domain in this instance.

But it is far easier to promote just the one domain as opposed to promoting 3 variations of the one domain name. I know that from past experience after I listed it in the Dmoz.org Directory without “www.”

http://VoipConference.info

“+www.voipconference.+info with 21 incoming links

compared to 320 incoming links (without the www.) “+voipconference.+info

TIP,
Domain Name Branding your website using a one off name like Google or eBay is still best when it comes to search engine marketing and for domain name recognition if you are prepared to invest the time and money, but if your budget is limited then using a domain name that describes your business or includes keywords relating to your product or service is equally good.

May Google be kind to your site.

Google is currently one of the dominant entities on the net period. The question is – is it really that omnipotent, is it really that advantageous. The question is ? IS IT REALLY “ALL THAT”.

To understand role of Google in the modern net society we need to go deep into its roots. Google was born at hands of Larry Page (rich boy) and perfected by Sergey Brin (russian rich boy) at Stanford University. The idea was to rank internet pages based on number of other pages linking back. For Brin it was sort of academic approach to web page ranking where web page would model for academic paper and back links it receives would model for number of citations that academic paper accounts for. Very interesting model indeed and in a sense is very useful in the academics; bus is this model as useful in the world of internet information ranking? Does this formula objectively represent the way any given website or webpage should be ranked among other competitors? Let me be the first one to disagree.

The Google that we are all using now is a very different Google that it used to be. Thanks to brains of Brin it has evolved from simply counting backward links to an algorithm that is protected better than our troops on a foreign soil. However, the basic idea is still the same and ranking is given based on number of links your site receives from other relevant sources. So what is the problem, you might ask. Lets imagine that you have created a brand new website that centers on certain topic of interest. Lets imagine that you are an expert in that topic and you have created the best website ever on that particular topic: it covers more information than any other source on the net, it offers simplicity in navigation, it offers largest and well organized library of sources on that particular topic, it complies with w3 standards, and it even can be seen in any browser in the world including all the hand held devices. That perfect site which would be very useful to many individuals around the world would end up at the bottom of the Google ranking system unless you spend countless hours trying to get links from relevant sites, trying to pay for fraudulent looking link services, getting frustrated, and still ending up at the bottom of the Google ranking system because some of your competitors have figure out a way to create numerous doorway pages, link scams, and so on. Just because your perfect site does not account for a large number of backwards links will bring your ranking down and will bring down with it all your hard work and desire to share your expertise with others. Some day you Google up that perfect site’s key word, that common sensed key word that should bring your perfect site at the top of the search results. You look at the results and you realize that there is nothing but bunch of irrelevant pages full of advertising and its all due to the fact that some geeks know how to beat the system. Now you tell me ? is that a fare way of ranking pages?

Google and its strategy brought plenty of hardship to ordinary website owners. Instead of updating and perfecting their sites owners have to hunt for links using all available means. Most of the time site owners are getting trapped into services that are questionable in nature. This environment creates numerous pitfalls for web surfers as well. Web surfers become victims of doorway pages with meaningless and countless key word links, smart redirect pages that throw you to places full of ads, and bad websites that managed to get gazillions links using their questionable techniques. All that commotion creates nothing but bad experience for anyone who is in search of information on the internet. Is that how the search engine should work, is that how omnipotent search engine should work, is that how billions making search engine should work?

Why is it that webmasters are so quick to blame Google if their website falls down the search rankings, or out of the rankings altogether? Can it never be their own fault?

I read an amusing forum post headed “What’s up with Google?”. The writer had a website just 2 months old, which had only had 2 visits from Googlebot, a Google robot. The poster was a bit grieved, and was blaming Google.

It seems they had extrapolated their own situation into one they had witnessed with other webmasters on another forum. They were also upset, this time by Google’s latest update, as their websites had been badly hit. Of course, the drop way down the rankings had seriously affected their income; what right had Google to do that to them, they were demanding to know?

So grieved were this group of webmasters they were trying to drum up support for a boycott of Google. Big G was too big for its boots and was going to be brought down by these few innocent souls. Who were they trying to kid, apart from themselves?

What was it these webmasters had in common that brought them together in this “bring down Google” brigade? Apparently, their websites were directories.

Now, let’s apply some intelligent marketing thought to this little situation as Google faces obliteration by a few small directory owners. As a company, Google has a tendency to get its basic marketing right, eventually. In the case of search, its customers are those using the Google search facility, as many millions of us do every day. So, Google’s first duty, when someone makes a search on a particular keyword or phrase, is to supply a list of what it considers the best websites for that search. Does that make Google the big bad monster? No, of course not; it’s trying to look out for its search customers.

I have been searching on the internet for many years. If ever I have searched for the omnipresent “widgets”, then it has been “widgets” I have typed in. Not once in my memory have I typed in “widget directory.” I have never even wanted to use a directory online; they take too long drilling down to find anything useful. As for the proliferation of online directories recently, they are often junk sites, using some automation software to create them in the first place. Many have been set up to deceive search engine robots into “thinking” they are valuable sites.

It is absolutely no surprise that Google has found a way of homing in on directories, if that is what they have done, and given them a shove down the rankings with their latest algorithm change. If their customer does a search on a keyword or phrase, that’s what they are looking for. They are not looking for a directory which, more often than not, is just a whole load of other links that may be related. I find such sites extremely irritating if I’m searching; am I the only one? I doubt it; people want to get directly to a site that has information on what they are looking for; something with added value.

No directory owner has the divine right to syphon off Google’s hard won search customers. Google is doing a decent job at marketing: trying to look after its customers. The directory owners calling for a boycott of Google are doing no such thing. They had found a way of getting high rankings, and now that method may have gone down the pan.

It is up to webmasters to do their own marketing, and Google is an important part of our market place. In the long run, we need to see Google as a customer and partner, as it sees us a customer and partner. Google is actually a very helpful company to webmasters, Google Sitemaps being a recent example of their desire to co-operate.

While some blinkered webmasters may see Google as an enemy (friend when they have a high ranking), it is up to the rest of us to try and apply some basic marketing practice. That means understanding what Google is looking for and trying to supply that need. After all, that is what Google does so successfully. We can all learn something.

Just look at Google’s Home Page. The message is: “Ok, we know you’re here to search, so get on with it. Here’s the search box.”

The message is not: “Hello, look at my pretty page. Do you like my Flash, and my clever graphics? And what about those links all over the place, aren’t they nice? You want to search? Hang on a minute, there’s lots of pictures for you to look at lower down, and how about going off to read about loads of other products. Oh, alright, you want to search; there’s a search box somewhere; near the bottom I think. You’ll find it?.eventually.”

The secret of real marketing is to understand your marketplace as it is, and how it is likely to develop. Google has made it obvious for a long time what they want; quality content that fills the needs of their search customers.

Hands up anyone who’s really searching for a directory?

You may have heard how important it is to have your website optimized for search engines, especially Google, which is currently the most popular worldwide. The reason for this is so your website will be ranked high in the search engines and people will see your site first, click on it, and increase your traffic and ultimately your sales.

You might think this all sounds like a wonderful idea and want to get your web site optimized for Google, but you may have no idea how to go about it. Don’t worry, getting your web page ready for the Google search engine is not as difficult as you might have thought. Google has a system called PageRank? that ranks the different web pages according to different standards. When you learn the standards you will know how to best optimize your page to get a high ranking in Google.

Tip #1 Search Engine Spamming

If you want to get a long term, high ranking with Google it is important not to spam. The reason for this is Google will blacklist you from their index and not list your URL. Also, most other web search engines operate the same way. Learn what is considered as spamming so you can avoid doing this.

Tip #2 Links

The more links you have on the Web that point to your website means the higher ranking you will receive on Google. This is because Google gives preference to sites with more links on the Web, so make sure you work hard to increase the links to your website that exist on the Web.

Tip #3 Keywords

Keywords are another major consideration if you want to get a high ranking with Google. The reason for this is that Google searches for the keywords that are related to your website and then ranks your website for those keyword phrases. If you have a website that is optimized for many keywords related to your niche, you’ll attract tons of free, targeted search engine traffic.

Tip #4 Do not Use Frames

Google does not support websites with frames very well, so if your website utilizes frames you run a risk that your site will not rank well with Google or even get indexed at all. Get rid of those frames if you want Google to list all of the pages on your website!

Tip #5 More Text

Google searches for text, not photos or images. Make sure that you keep your content keyword rich and accurate. Keep the graphics to a minimum as well because the more images you have, the less text you have, the fewer keywords Google will be able to search for, and the longer your web pages will take to load.

Tip #6 Links

Make sure all pages within your site have their own URL or otherwise Google will have problems picking up and ranking these pages.

Even though Google Revenues continue to soar, the hidden problem that may stifle growth and may even allow Yahoo or MSN to overtake the paid search market in the future lies in two critical phrases: Customer Support, and Customer Training

Approximately 40% of the small businesses we have surveyed have tried Adwords in the past and failed, and some of them have tried multiple times. In some markets the percentage is closer to 60%. Why? because the program was designed by Google engineers, and heavily favors companies with the type of resources that most small businesses do not have. Unlike MSN and Yahoo who have programs that are much simpler in terms of use for small business people, Google favors a technology driven solution that relies less on customer support, and expects users of their system to become more sophisticated.

The problem with this is that it is working quite well for professional internet marketers and search engine marketing companies employed by big corporations, but many small business people who are not web-savvy are by and large left out of the mix. This is unfortunate because this is a huge segment of potential income that is left “up for grabs” and may be scooped up by MSN and Yahoo who are developing simpler, easier systems with better customer support.

All the major search engines recognize this problem, and getting those “offline” advertisers online is a high priority for all of them, but so far there has not been great success. It is a knowledge and training gap, and neither Yahoo, MSN, or Google has so far been able to address it adequately.

Google’s recent acquisition of urchin, a web analytics program illustrates the problem Google is trying to solve. Big Companies getting involved in paid search will still continue to drive big revenues, but the new internet is about verticals and niches, and Google simply isn’t making the grade in terms of training their customers well enough.

Where do small business customers go after they “churn”? Many of them go back to what they were doing successfully before; email marketing, direct marketing, and call centers according to our study.

The next growth area will be hundreds of thousands of verticals, driven by small businesses exploiting areas and needs that the fortune 500 companies can not fill efficiently. The search engine company that gets the most advertisers on its side will win market share, and winning will require the ability to service everybody, not just the super sophisticated internet super geeks.

However, many private companies not sanctioned by Google, have sprung up in order to try to bridge the gap between the Google Adwords program and the ability to advertise efficiently on Google and achieve a high ROI. One such company is http://adwordstraining.org that offers free video training and free frequently updated information at http://marketingnewsblog.adwordstraining.org

Simple training videos are available on the site, as well as an advertiser self study course to get non-technical people up to speed with Google Adwords advertising.

Between Google’s extensive training program of Google Professionals and private training by private companies, this knowledge gap may be bridged, and in the process a whole new industry of Google Adwords Marketing companies may be created, to facilitate the knowledge gap between Google and the advertisers that want to take advantage of the enormous advertising reach afforded by paid search.

But, this might not be enough for Google to keep its lead, as advertisers often follow the path of least resistance in getting their messages out, and they are the ones funding the growth of the search engine industry.

Where those advertisers ultimately go will determine the ultimate victor in the ever growing search engine wars, and the winner is by no means secure at this point.

Having greatly benefited from my relationship with Google in the past several years, I am dedicating this article to the search engine superstar.

I have to be brutally honest and relay that our friendship hasn’t always been rosy. I got to know Google several years back, when it was just a small fish in a big pond. I started to analyze its every move and realized that Google is a fickle, clever and extremely mysterious being. Still, I decided to get more acquainted. Here are a few things I learned along the way.

When it comes to logic, Google is the queen

In other words, avoid participating in anything that may blacklist you from this search engine, including keyword stuffing, link farms and hosting 50 “sister” sites on the same server. Keyword stuffing doesn’t refer merely to the content of your site, but also the alt tags, headers, URLs and any additional areas of your web site.

Google likes to stay focused

When optimizing the individual pages of your Web site, try to hone in on one or two relevant keywords per Web page. Analyze each page and identify which keyword would be most suitable.

If you decide to optimize for two keywords per page, make sure that they are similar in context. For example, if you are optimizing for the key phrase “insurance leads,” you may also consider optimizing for “insurance sales leads” within the same page.

Google loves to travel

It is commonly known that Google loves links, both inbound and outbound. When it comes to search engine optimization, lots of research has focused on inbound links, but little has focused on the number of links on an actual page. It appears that Google favors sites that have several internal and outbound links over those that don’t have links.

If you have any doubts about this theory, simply do a search on any high-volume keyword or phrase within this search engine and analyze the first few sites that come up. Notice how the majority of them have numerous internal links on the main pages of their Web site.

Google is popular and expects you to be, too

The more popular your site is across the Web, the more Google will favor you. Obviously, having several high-quality inbound links to your site is key in achieving higher rankings. When identifying Web sites for inbound links, target the ones that are highly relevant to your site. For example, if you run a jewelry site, look for sites that are purely informational on the topic of jewelry or gemstones. Also, make sure that the sites you decide to partner with have a good PageRank (at least a 5) and online presence.

To save yourself a lot of hassle, conduct a keyword search relevant to your business and target the Web sites that show up on the first and second pages of Google (weeding out the competition, of course); contact the Web masters of those sites and tell them about your company and find useful ways to compensate them for adding your company’s information on their site.

If you have an affiliate program, don’t be shy to pitch it. If you have an online advertising budget, offer them a pay-per-click deal or monthly advertising fee for promoting your Web site. Note that partnering with these sites or purchasing ads should complement your overall marketing and business development strategy-and not be used merely to get link value.

Google gets bored easily

Regardless of whether your site is informational, e-commerce or just a sophisticated version of a business card, having quality content is crucial for search engine optimization. Adding to that factor is how often you update your site’s content.

If you run a site that has new content added on a monthly basis (do not overdo it), then eventually the Google “freshbot” will start visiting your site more often and index your new content into the database. The more content you update, the more Google visits your site and indexes it quicker. Do not refresh your content simply for search engine optimization purposes, but do take the effort to keep interesting articles, blogs and entries to keep your visitors coming back.

If you haven’t already noticed, keeping pace with Google is not an easy undertaking. It takes a certain level of knowledge, skill and creativity to truly benefit from this relationship. The rest is up to the stars.

Google uses an algorithm to determine the search engine results (SERPS). The algorithm is based upon certain factors that include keyword density, Meta Tags, anchor tags, image tags, back links, etc etc etc.

If your site is optimized for specific keywords than you will rank better in the search engines. There are many factors but onsite optimization is a must. You can research and fine out the information yourself or hire and SEO. I have put together some Free Basics on www.seo4dummies.com

Overture shows you the bid price of certain keywords. Wordtracker show you the amount the term is searched. You can use www.nichebot.com a free tool to see all this at once.

You can research keywords free online with these various tools.

www.nichebot.com ( my personal SEO Favorite)

http://www.webmasterautomation.com/cgi-bin/keywordtool.cgi

http://www.keyworddensity.com ( Keyword density analyzer )

Adsense / Adwords.

Google Adwords have a bid price to display certain “keyword terms”. Think of Adwords as TV commercials. Webmasters can put Adsense on there websites. Think of Adsense as the TV Program. If a viewer of your webpage clicks on one of your ads, you get a commission. That commission is based upon the price of the Adword. Google keeps about 60% of the bid price and passes about 40% to the webmaster or Adsense account.

The way the Adsense ads are displayed is determined by the Keyword Density of your individual sites. If you site is prominently about “say Dogs” then the Adsense will display ads about Dogs. However, Google in its new business model is now tracking IP numbers and providing more local ads. Think of the local TV commercials. They are not as expensive as the National Ads. Therefore you may have local ads that are displayed on your site that have only a$0.03 payout rather than a $5.00 payout.

If you optimize you site for your theme, or content, then you can generate more traffic to you sites based upon your keywords. The Google Adsense, will display ads relevant to your topics. If they are not displaying ads to our topic, then you must adjust your Density of your keywords in the body of text of the page.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of changing your website, so that it is spider friendly. If your site is brand new it will take a few months for Google to index your site and be visible in the SERPs. This is known as the “Google sandbox theory”. Aged sites should already be indexed as long as the site has something for the spiders to grab. Excessive graphics, java scripts, PHP sessions are all not spider friendly.

To get spiders to come to your site often and grab your data, you must have links from outside websites to your site. This is the Coveted Page Rank factor. Page rank is only a factor of the amount of incoming and outgoing links to your site. Only a small percentage of Page Rank is attributed to the Google Algorithm for Search Engine Results at this time.

Spiders follow links, once there are links established the spiders will Crawl, your sites. They will gather minimal information. Several Weeks to months later, the spiders will Deep crawl you site and index all that is available. To speed this process along, back links or links to other sites is a must. The more links the spider can travel to get to your site the better. Linking to like minded topics is always best. You don’t need to buy LINKS. You can acquire links via posts in forums, writing and submitting articles, using a Blog post, submitting to SEO friendly directories.

To view the spider activity on your site, first go to your traffic stats. Look for the googlebots. See how often they come and the amount of data they have “grabbed”. You can also go to Google itself and if you are indexed view the Cache of your page. That cache date is a good indication of the last true crawl of your site.

To see if you are indexed go to Google and type in the search box, site:www.yourwebsite.com ( make sure the word site is not Capitalized and you replace he words your website with your actual URL). View the results. You should also repeat the process and this time leave out the www. , and just enter the site:yourwebsite.com Sometime webmasters leave out the www., but then look for Google using the www. Or link to sites using the www. Either way is fine, just pick one version and be consistent with www. Or non www throughout your website career.

As the spiders come to your site they will start to grab information, that information is sorted and returns the SERPS. Did you know that there are different DataCenters throughout the world that Hold that information? If you ask a friend on the say East Cost to search for a term and tell you where you site is in the SERPS, they result on the West cost may be completely different. As much as 5-10 or more positions depending on the activity of that keyword.

Ok that’s enough for today.

It’s the buzz word’s going across the internet marketing guru’s strategy platform at the moment?Google’s Sitemap to index your web pages within days if not hours.

This new system will revolutionize how marketers will now be able to submit an xml file of their website pages direct to Google and work along side the mega giant search engine to provide detailed information regarding the total amount of your websites pages and how often they are updated.

Googles aim is to cut down the time and sheer volume load of work its spiders has to perform to keep its search engine listings up to date with all the current websites that are evolving on an ever-increasing daily basis.
